Position Summary
Our client, a Fortune-scale organization in the energy industry, is seeking an IT Manager – Data Science & AI to lead a mature team focused on advanced analytics, machine learning, and emerging AI capabilities. This leader will guide a team delivering enterprise-scale solutions that support high-value use cases across operations and the broader business.
This role requires a rare combination of people leadership, technical depth, and business storytelling. The ideal candidate will have credibility as a data science leader, experience overseeing sophisticated AI/ML work, and the ability to communicate the value of the team’s work to senior business stakeholders.
This is a full-time, onsite leadership role that can sit in San Antonio, TX; Findlay, OH; Denver, CO; or Houston, TX. Candidates must be comfortable leading a primarily remote team while being the on-site presence for the function in their local office.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of data scientists responsible for enterprise AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics initiatives.
- Define and execute the roadmap for data science and AI solutions that drive measurable business impact.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of AI/ML initiatives, including problem framing, model development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Guide work across traditional machine learning, statistical modeling, generative AI, and emerging agentic AI use cases.
- Partner with business leaders to identify high-impact opportunities and help translate technical capabilities into business value.
- Act as an internal evangelist for the team, helping stakeholders understand where AI and data science can solve operational and commercial challenges.
- Build a strong team culture centered on innovation, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards for governance, security, and responsible AI.
- Balance strategic leadership with operational oversight, including delivery quality, staffing, coaching, and performance management.
- Manage a combination of full-time team members and contractor resources.
Minimum Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of diversified IT experience.
- 3+ years of direct people leadership over professional staff.
- Prior hands-on background in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
- Experience leading teams working across multiple AI disciplines, not just one specialty area.
- Strong understanding of traditional machine learning, statistical modeling, and modern AI techniques.
- Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience operating in cloud-centric enterprise environments.
Additional Plus
- Leadership experience over established data science teams in larger enterprises.
- Exposure to agentic AI, computer vision, and advanced model operationalization.
- Experience helping business units identify and prioritize AI use cases.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Salary / Wage Range
$137,900 – $200,000
Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown. The Doyle Group offers a competitive rewards package, which includes a 401k, healthcare coverage and other benefits.
